Inspection findings

"High standards are achieved in some aspects of the expressive and performing arts. Standards are good in Art at both Key stages. Pupils are encouraged to work independently and they produce work of a high quality. The introduction of Drama into the curriculum this year has been very successful."

"The response of pupils to their work is satisfactory or better in almost nine out of ten lessons. Most pupils have a clear idea of the standard of behaviour expected of them and co-operate satisfactorily with teachers and each other. The good quality of the behaviour in lessons is a significant strength of the school."

"The quality of the teaching was satisfactory or better in four out of five lessons and it was good or very good in almost a half. Effective lessons were well structured with clear leaning objectives."

" The level and quality of the provision for pupils who have special educational needs has improved. Classroom assisstants have received training and are effective in supporting individuals.

"The school is strongly led by the headteacher. He has a clear vision for the future development of the school and communicates this clearly. He has a percptive understanding of the strengths and weaknesses with which he has to work, and is providing firm and purposeful leadership to make good use of the former and remedy the latter. He has gained the respect of teachers, pupils and parents and the standing of the school in the community has risen."

"Staff morale is high. The senior management team is hard-working and conscientious and have supported the Headteacher well."

" The governing body has been re-organised with a clear committee structure, agreed terms of reference and a regular cycle of meetings. The involvement of the governors is good, and their work is clerly focussed on raising standards and improving the quality of education provided."
